--- title: thank you mason date: 2022-02-03 tags: - morse - morse - code - cw - history - technology --- I had the most excellent Mason reach out to me to provide a link to [All About the Telegraph and Deciphering Morse Code Text][telegraph-morse-code-text] for the morse section on the [links] page. A great addition and well worth checking out. Masons learning morse code as part of his [Signs, Signals and Code][ssc] (pdf) merit badge for Boy Scouts, which is a fantastic thing to do. Things covered by the badge include morse code, sign language, semaphore, braille, trail signs and markers, hand signals, and cryptography. Do they let adults try out for this badge? It sounds like a challenge but also very enjoyable. It reminded me of two simple to learn ciphers that I showed my boys when they were younger; the [pigpen cipher] and [ROT13]. Handy for hiding messages from you brother or making games with a 'decode the secret' challange.
