AI tools can mask your own skill development if you are not deliberate about it.

Maintain a record of skills you actively built during a project — things you understood, debugged, designed, or made decisions about yourself, not just reviewed after the AI produced them.
+
+
This record is useful for:
+
- resume and portfolio evidence
+
- performance reviews
+
- identifying gaps where you are over-relying on AI and under-developing genuine capability
+
- knowing what you can credibly explain and defend in an interview
+
+
Keep a `skills.md` alongside the project journal. For each skill or technology, note:
+
- what you did hands-on
+
- what decisions you made and why
+
- what went wrong and what you learned from fixing it
+
+
A task where the AI generated code and you approved it is not the same as a skill you hold. Be honest about the distinction.
