Masons learning morse code as part of his Signs, Signals and Code (pdf) merit badge for Boy Scouts, which is a fantastic thing to do.
Things covered by the badge include morse code, sign language, semaphore, braille, trail signs and markers, hand signals, and cryptography.
Do they let adults try out for this badge? It sounds like a challenge but also very enjoyable.
It reminded me of two simple to learn ciphers that I showed my boys when they were younger; the pigpen cipher and ROT13. Handy for hiding messages from you brother or making games with a ‘decode the secret’ challange.
